Program Offerings

PROGRAMS

Recreational Soccer Leagues

Our Recreation League is divided into four age groups, 3 & 4 year olds, 5 & 6 year olds, 7 -9 year olds, and 9-12 year olds. Each division meets during its own scheduled time. Instruction is provided through fun games and all players are exposed to the progressive curriculum to challenge every player.

As players progress through the program and enter the oldest age bracket (9-12), they will be introduced to competitive games against other teams within that age group. Younger age groups (3-9) begin with modified scrimmages to maximize involvement and success in the game.

TOPSoccer
TOPSoccer is a community-based training and team program for young athletes with disabilities.  The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, who has a mental or physical disability. Our goal is to enable young athletes with disabilities to become valued and successful members of the Smyrna Clayton Soccer Club.

TOPSoccer is a National program adopted by the Smyrna Clayton Soccer Club to meet the needs of children with physical and/or mental disabilities.  The activities and games have been modified and adapted to meet the needs of the children in league.

Background

Started in 2009, Smyrna-Clayton Soccer Club  (SCSC) was founded to create an exciting environment where we can increase the number of players that are playing the game of soccer.  We are, likewise, committed to providing quality coaching, so that each of those players can develop specific skills, play within the laws, and enjoy the game.  We also recognize the importance of increasing the actual number of coaches that are involved in the sport and providing them with sound fundamentals so that they may be encouraged to develop their own understanding and knowledge of the game.  Ultimately, we want the communities of Smyrna & Clayton to continue growing in their support of youth soccer and provide an opportunity for our members to get out and be active at an affordable cost.

Program Details

Our recreation & TOPSoccer programs are offered in the Spring and Fall.  They are designed for beginner level players starting as young as three years old up to the maximum age of eight. Instruction is provided through fun games and all players are exposed to the progressive curriculum to challenge every player.  The league is organized so that families only need to commit to Saturday mornings making it ideal for children that may also be involved with other activities.

Session Format
Skills instruction and scrimmages are combined into one weekly session. There is no additional night of practice during the week. Players will arrive at the time assigned for their respective age group and report to the same field each week.

Dates & Times

Each season, Spring & Fall, lasts 6-weeks.  The league schedules all of its games on Saturdays, but the scheduled start and end date for each season is decided prior to the season.  The staff must consider weather and facility conflicts in determining the schedule of the season.

Sessions Times - the session times are as follows:
  • 3 & 4 year olds: 8:30 am - 9:15 am (45 minutes long)
  • 5 & 6 year olds: 9:30 am - 10:15 am (45 minutes long)
  • 7 - 9 year olds: 10:30 am - 11:30 am (1 hour long)
  • 9 - 12 year olds: 11:45 am - 12:45 pm (1 hour long)

Location

Currently, we conduct our league on the Bermuda Practice fields at Clayton Intermediate School. The Smyrna-Clayton Soccer Club does not have its own location, and have worked with the Smyrna School District to utilize their facilities to support our club.  We have previously held our league at North Smyrna Elementary and Smyrna High School.

Cost

One of the primary tenants of our league is to provide affordable soccer to the community of Smyrna-Clayton.  As such, we have always kept the prices to a minimum. The club does not look to make a profit of our players, and any increase or adjustment to cost should be made in order to sustain the club.

Exceptions to League Fees

SCSC’s TOPSoccer is provided at no cost to the player.  Likewise, players with financial needs in the recreational league can be offered a scholarship that allows them to participate free of charge.  Players and families in those cases should contact the league for consideration.  Children of our volunteer coaches are refunded their fee at the end of the completed season, as a token of our gratitude.

Volunteers

Smyrna Clayton Soccer Club was started with a volunteering spirit and a commitment to the children in our community.  It is this same responsibility that drives many wonderful people in our area to coach the children in our league.   The key to all of this is that we ask people like you to be our volunteer coaches. This is an essential part of our success and we encourage everyone to consider offering their time and being active in their child’s experience.  No matter what your starting point, there will always be available resources to help you be successful as a youth soccer coach. It is our mission to motivate the coaches so that each and every SCSC member can feel good about the quality of instruction and the overall service they receive while participating in our programs.
